15 Planning to “Test” How Well Precorrection is Working

As with any intervention, we want to be able to draw accurate conclusions about how well precorrection is working – as a part of Tier 1 practices, as a stand-alone Tier 2 intervention, as an added component to a Tier 2 intervention, or as a component of a Tier 3 intervention. In this illustration, we discuss how to test how well precorrection is working when used as a stand-alone intervention. In ideal circumstances, you would “test” the use of this low-intensity strategy using a practical design. In addition, we would collect three important sources of data: (1) student performance data to see how students are doing when the intervention is (and is not) in place; (2) treatment integrity data to know if the strategy is in place as planned, and (3) social validity data to get stakeholders’ views before you start and after it is in place. Each of these data sources provides important information.
