Designing a Ci3T Model

Ci3T models of prevention are designed to assist states, districts, and school leaders in creating a comprehensive systems-oriented approach to:

  • integrate supports for students’ academic, behavioral, and social and emotional well-being needs
  • Promote collaboration among educators, families, and community members
  • Support educators’ well-being through data-informed professional learning, clear expectations, and positive learning environments

At the district level, leaders identify key certainties they want to see across all schools. These components come together in a Ci3T Implementation Manual for each school.

The Ci3T Design
Professional Learning Series

Designing a Ci3T model is a manualized, collaborative process.

School-site Ci3T Leadership Teams—including principals, general education teachers, special education teachers, related service providers, family members, and students—engage in the Ci3T Design Professional Learning Series.

Key Details

The Ci3T Design Professional Learning Series is:

  • Six sessions spanning one school year: Three two-hour sessions, and Three full-day sessions
  • Fully manualized, enabling it to be led by District Ci3T Trainers and Coaches independently or with support from the Ci3T Research Team
  • Data-informed, involving input from school faculty, staff, families, community members, and students

What to Expect When Designing a Ci3T Model

Throughout the year-long Ci3T Design Professional Learning Series, several activities take place.

Ci3T Leadership Teams:

  • Attend each of the six sessions
  • Meet monthly at the school site to continue design work between sessions
  • Use input gathered from faculty, staff, students, and families through structured feedback opportunities

Additionally, Ci3T District Leadership shares district certainties as a starting point.

Then, Ci3T Leadership Team members collaborate with faculty, staff, students, families, and district leaders to select and prepare to implement strategies, practices, programs, and assessments as part of Ci3T.

This may include:

  • Academic and behavioral screening tools
  • Academic curricula
  • Social and emotional well-being curricula
  • Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions
  • Professional learning to support Ci3T practices (e.g., low-intensity strategies)

Important Note

The design year is a planning year.

The goal is not immediate implementation of new practices, but thoughtful selection, alignment, and preparation for implementation in the following year.

Many schools and districts already have relevant resources in place. These are often integrated into the Ci3T framework.

The Ci3T Design process provides a data-informed approach to organizing and refining school systems to facilitate transparency, communication, and efficiencies.
